New found (bathroom) FREEDOM!

My little guy started standing to pee, just before turning 3!

I really never thought it would happen. He's been potty trained for almost a year and had been so dependent, never wanting to stand. Tried it for a short while and then decided sitting was best. I had visions of him in the bathroom as a teenager at school, kicking off his underwear and squatting to pee! Or me showing up, helping him unbutton and re-button his pants. LOL!

About 2 months ago, he started showing interest in doing it by himself (still sitting). Let me remind you that he never went to the bathroom at school until April. He never had an accident, but for 7 months he would just hold it until he got home and then finally one day he decided he wanted to go. When they told me, I was so surprised and a little curious as to what sparked his interest.

Not long after he started going in to do his business by himself, he started standing. I think he likes standing better in public restrooms (I don't blame him), but it's mostly because he's scared of when it flushes. :-)

So now, for some time, he's standing. He has good "control," or should I say, as good as any man has. ;-) He announces every time before he goes in "I haf to go pee pee and I wanna stand."

As he approaches 3, I see him becoming more and more independent with little things like that. It makes me sad that he is losing more of his baby-ness, but at the same time, happy he is gaining some independence. And that, in the end, is really what it's all about!

The Library

Photobucket

He could spend hours there.

This particular trip we found a kid's book on Yoga, My Daddy Is a Pretzel: Yoga for Parents and Kids

Photobucket

So he did his best downward dog

and pretzel pose right there in the library.

And SHE could spend hours watching her brother...

Just when you think

he isn't really listening...you stop at random parts in the book and he starts filling in the words. This actually happened on a total fluke and made me LOL so I had to get it on video.

I guess I better start reading ALL of the words on ALL of the pages of ALL of the books....ALL of the time.

Wordless Wednesday {'Tis the Season}

for ouchies and boo-boos. :-( We got to break out our shorts this weekend, but that came with a price to pay. Poor little guy.  He didn't even cry. He was soooo excited to be at the zoo, his little body couldn't keep up with his feet and he went skidding across the loose pavement.

I scooped him up and he said "Ow, dat hurts me." When I said "Your knees are bleeding, bud." He said, "No, der red" and then ran to see the pig.

Happy 1/2 Birthday to Lane!!

Dear Lane,
We like to to celebrate half birthdays around here and today you are 2 1/2 years old, little man. You are my sweet boy with a kind heart, gentle demeanor and fabulous smile. You are like a little sponge these days and while it's exciting and fascinating, we also have to be very careful what we say around you because it WILL come back to haunt us at a later time.

You are doing really well in school. You are the youngest in your class, but no one can tell. You were potty-trained before more than half of your class and have yet to have an accident at school. You speak in full sentences and can perform many skills required of you. You know all of your colors-pointing to the correct one when asked and can also tell us what color something is when asked. You can count to 15, but still omit 10. I think your favorite number is 3. Every time you ask for more chicken or french toast sticks and I ask you how many you reply "free!" (three) When asked your age, you sometimes tell us 3 and when asked how old Parker is you say "free months."

You make me laugh just about every minute of our day. The stuff you come up with just blows my mind. You LOVE to Skype aka "talk on the puter." And you frequently demand, "I talk Cece and Papa and Nene and Uncle Yuke on the puter, momma!"

The other day in Target you put your toothbrush (that I was buying) up to your ear and said "I talk on phone" and then proceeded to "press" buttons on it. You love to cook and ask daily to help make something. Daddy or I (depending on who's cooking) always has a helper when we are cooking and for the most part you are helpful. Maybe not so much when Daddy was cutting up pork for his chili last week and you sprinkled hot cocoa on it. I guess you were trying to broaden our taste horizons??

You absolutely love your extended family...your aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas and even your great grandma and grandpas. It makes me so happy that even though you don't see them daily, you still know them and feel completely comfortable with them and most times actually prefer them to me or daddy.

You are still an excellent sleeper. You go to bed around 8:30 and wake up around 8:30 or 9. As of a few days ago, you got rid of your paci and it was so smooth and easy that I still can't believe its real! It just goes to show us that you didn't really need it to soothe you to sleep. It was just a habit that you were used to.

You are the best big brother and your sister LOVES you sooo much already. Whenever you catch her eye she watches you with intent and when you leave her sight, she often stretches her neck to find you. You are always concerned about her and if she isn't close by you ask about her. I can tell you two are going to be best buds!

You aren't much of an eater, but never really have been. The staples are your favorite-PB&J, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, noodles, any and all fruits. You go in spurts. Sometimes you eat tons and tons a few days in a row and then you go days without hardly eating a full meal.

You weigh 31 lbs. and are pretty tall, but not sure just how tall you are.

On this day, we were in IL and totally snowed in at Nene and Papa's house. 20 inches of snow fell. It was kind of fun!

For fun, you built towers from the pantry:

Helped me make finger paint:

And then painted with it:

While your sister watched:

You really don't like to get messy so we had to keep telling you that it was ok and we would clean your hands when you were done.

After a shower and some lunch you went for a snowy walk with Harley and Papa.

And found snowdrifts two times the size of you!

I think you had a really fun day! Happy 1/2 Birthday Lane!
