Walking Down the Aisle...The Result

So you may be wondering if Lane made it down the aisle. I knew we were in for it when at the rehearsal he took one look at the 30 people scattered about in the pews and turned around toward the door. But I didn't worry too much and hoped for the best. When the real time came the girls did great. The oldest flower girl (she was 3) carried her basket and threw her flowers like a pro. The other flower girl, Luca Mattioda, with some coaxing from her mom at the end of the aisle made it down and was ADORABLE!

And then we had one more munchkin to get down. Well, my Dad set him down and as soon as he took one look at a packed church full of people he reached out his arms and ran to my Dad. So I gave Maddie (the jr. bridesmaid) the "eyes" and she went down to get him. We had planned that the night before. And she did a great job.

So there you have it folks! He technically made it down. It just was on his own terms. My brother-n-law Ryan put it perfectly, "If it wasn't Lane's idea to walk down the aisle...he wasn't gonna walk down that aisle!"

And here's a picture of him after the ceremony walking down the aisle...he did a good job with some moral support!

And a HUGE shout-out to Grandma and Grandpa McConville. They were the behind-the-scenes-make-it-happen-do-everything people! From the end of the rehearsal at the church on 12/30 to the morning of Jan. 1st they were in charge of the wee one. They got him to bed, fed him all his meals, dressed him in his tux, and made sure he got the proper amount of naps in before the big performance. They also were in charge of him at church. That was mostly Grandpa Ed. Bless his heart, he had him in the back at times feeding him snacks and getting him drinks and occupying him during the ceremony. I know that had to be the toughest job. And at 11 o'clock they took him home from the reception and got him to bed. It was so nice knowing that he was in good hands while Matt and I could enjoy the events and not have to worry about caring for Lane.

AHHH!

We pulled into Greenville at about 12:30 am on Monday morning. After a good night's sleep I was knee deep in unpacking a Jeep full of Christmas presents. It took me a good part of the day. Lane and I stayed in our pj's until 6 (yes, pm) when he woke up from a nap and we jumped in the shower. And when we got out we put a clean set of pj's on!

Yesterday, after Matt brought down all the suitcases from the top of the Jeep (we are the Griswold's at Christmas), I unpacked those and thankfully didn't have much laundry to do. So I basically spent yesterday putting away clean clothes. We did get dressed and went on a much needed grocery trip. I would just like to thank this nifty cart from Whole Foods for getting Lane over the hump. This was his 3rd ride in a cart in 2 hours, he hadn't napped yet or had lunch and it was nearing 1 o'clock. But one look at this thing and I knew it would hold him over.

Can I just point out how genius it is...
First of all, it's not one of those HUGE over-sized can't really push a regular cart-straight, let alone a regular cart with this seat-thingy attached. It has a little car attached under the cart so it's a normal size.

Second, the lovely little angel, isn't in your face. They're conveniently below the cart facing the opposite direction as you. Cause let's face it, grocery shopping alone can wear on your brain...or at least mine, let alone with a little munchkin in your face grabbing at your list and playing with your pen. I barely knew he was there.

And thirdly (is that a word?) playing with the steering wheel and pushing all the little buttons extended my trip to grab every item on my list. And didn't force me to choose the items I needed for the next few nights for dinner and then make another stop later in the week. By the third stop, I don't blame him, Diddy's running on empty and frankly so is mama.

And not only did the car help, but a little paci action as well. If I could have taken the cart with us, I could have made at least 2 more stops.

Of course I have pictures from the holidays and Lacey's wedding, but the thought of editing them all and getting them on the computer makes my brain hurt. So stay tuned...hopefully by next Christmas I will have the motivation to get to them!

Happy New Year!

We're still in the cold cold state of IL. We head back tomorrow. I am doing laundry, packing, and getting ready for a long drive in the morning. Our stay has been a memorable one, very busy, but fun to say the least. We celebrated the holidays with all of our family and on New Year's Eve, our family of 7 turned into a family of 8!

I'm pretty sure...

I'm pretty sure I am ready for Christmas-shopping done, presents wrapped, getting organized for our trip home
I'm pretty sure I squeal with excitement at the thought of Lacey's wedding and all the festivities surrounding it
I'm pretty sure I picked the coldest morning of the week to stop at the park after the gym
I'm pretty sure it was 42 at 10 am and noone else was there because they are from SC and think 42 is FREEZING
I'm pretty sure, I must admit, I think 42 is freezing as well
I'm pretty sure Lane didn't think twice that it was 42. He was glad to be outside
I'm pretty sure I stopped at the park this day because it was so sunny and pretty out
I'm pretty sure the extra fresh air helped Lane to sleep extra long today and that's why I am writing this post
I'm pretty sure I took to heart what an older lady at the gym told me in response to her observing me let Lane look at the fountain, the bike racks, the stairs, the airplanes, the trees, etc (i.e. dilly dally) instead of hurrying to the car
I'm pretty sure she said "I'm glad you are letting him stop and smell the roses."
I'm pretty sure I was glad I was too without even realizing it, after all, it is my job!
I'm pretty sure we all need to be reminded to "stop and smell the roses sometime"
I'm pretty sure my face was beat red when a college girl in Body Blast class asked me if I have a personal trainer. I'm pretty sure it turned even brighter red when I told her I am lucky and have good genetics
I'm pretty sure Lane is close to 30 lbs. (which could also be why my arms are toned) 30lbs up and down up and down all day everyday
I'm pretty sure I was filled with anxiety last week when I was told that I could not eat anything after lunch...until....DINNER??!!? wha???
I'm pretty sure it was because a nurse was coming over to draw blood and do a quick physical on us for life insurance purposes
I'm pretty sure by being told I could not eat, made me in fact, want to eat even more
I'm pretty sure Lane and I each have at LEAST one snack between lunch and dinner and mostly 2 (Hey, don't want my blood sugar low or my metabolism to slow ;-)
I'm pretty sure I have passed my germ-phobia onto Lane
I'm pretty sure after washing his hands with soap and water at the gym he then proceeded to hold out his hand for sanitizer at the door when we were leaving (or maybe it's just fun to push out and rub the sanitizer onto his hands)
I'm pretty sure the high tomorrow is 38 and there is a prediction for snow
I'm pretty sure the grocery stores will be crazy tonight with people buying milk and bread...no lie...that's what they do here when "snow" is predicted
I'm pretty sure I have to work tonight (and Lane too)
I'm pretty sure Matt will remember to pick Lane up at The Shop on his way home from work (did you know Lane was a Shop employee??? He works one hour every Thursday!) The many perks of being a Shop employee...LOL...you can bring your children if they have no place to go :-)
I'm pretty sure I was glad to chat with my mother-in-law, Loretta, last night while Matt gave Lane a bath.
I'm pretty sure I was supposed to be cooking dinner, but talking with Loretta is MUCH more fun!
I'm pretty sure Lane's new favorite word is 'no' but he says it like 'ah-na' just so matter of factly
I'm pretty sure I asked for reddish low lights at my hair appt. last night (I know, daring (for me))
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I got and love them!
I'm pretty sure it was a good festive change, just in time for the holidays and that it gave my boring one-dimensional blond locks a little dimension!
I'm pretty sure that's about all I'm pretty sure about right now...

Prepping

So we've been prepping. I don't know how much you can prep a 15 month old. Frankly they aren't thinking about anything other than what's about to happen in the next 5 minutes. My son, is going to be a ring bearer in about a month at his Aunt Cece's wedding. We have been a part since the beginning, remember this, and we all have a part for the wedding. I'm the MOH, Matt's a groomsman, and Lane is the ring bearer. He will be 16 months old by then, but I don't see a huge difference between a 15 and 16 month old. I try to picture him walking so graciously down the isle like my ring bearers did.

They were awesome...they pulled CAT tractors...they were also THREE and not 16 months.

We go to church and while I'll say it's a stretch to describe him as good in church, he's really not bad...just a little fidgety, like any 15 month old is and quite frankly doesn't understand why we have to sit and stand for an hour when he would rather be walking around.

The other day I asked him if he was going to be good in church for Lacey's wedding and this is the response I got:

All I'm gonna say is, "We're prepping!"

A shower for the Bride-to-be

Sorry this post has nothing to do with Lane, I usually don't like to do that....but I have to show Sister Puss some L-O-V-E! Plus, a lot of people at the shower read the blog so now they get to see themselves on it!

We had Lace's shower in the Banquet room @ Uptown..always a good choice! We transformed it into a little pizzeria since Lace and Ty are the 'pizza' couple. We served flatbread pizzas as appetizers (4 cheese and Caprese) and salads as the entree (choice of Cesar or Spinach). They got tons of nice gifts and a great time was had by all!
