A Simple Friday

It's usually museum day, but my kiddos were so content with staying in their jammies and hanging around the house and I was okay with that. Especially since most days we are up and out of the house before 9.

I took the opportunity to get some work done since they were playing so nicely. The view from my office today.

It's definitely nice taking it easy for the day. I did get caught in my jammies when the UPS guy came to the door. It was past 1PM and I answered it with Parker, pant-less, on my hip. I was the picture perfect definition of what most picture as a stay-at-home-mom at that moment!

We did however venture out after nap. And by venture, I mean hit up Old Navy for their sale and then end up here, where I caught a few minutes of peace with my latte in hand. Even if that peace did include TWO trips to the bathroom. They really need to put those bathrooms closer to the train table.

Thanksgiving 2012

Was MY holiday! Celebrated at my house, where I (okay and Mom and Dad) did the cooking.

Where my table was set for 7 adults and 3 kids. Where we toasted to a wonderful Thanksgiving and shared all that we are thankful.

I could not have been happier. I want to host every year and if you'd like to join us...you are more than welcome!! ;-)

Yep, this pretty much sums it up!

4 days in Vegas with the whole adult family celebrating birthdays and taking a break from the every day grind. It was one of the most fun weekends I have had in a while. And every minute of our trip...starting with the plane ride there was as fun as this video (and this was just a random elevator ride)! Viva Las Vegas!

A Glimpse into life with our little Lou Lou

Upon meeting you she will first look down at your shoes and then scan up. If she likes your shoes enough she may ask you to take them off or will scope them out once you do. She loves dresses, princesses, bows, jewelry and any and all things baby-fake or real. She likes to carry a purse around one arm with her cell phone in the other. She loves buttons, buckles and snaps. She would spend hours buckling and unbuckling anything. She likes her coats and shirts buttoned to the top and if you don't do so, she will make sure you do. She loves to dance and will ask anyone to dance at any sound of music. She absolutely adores her brother to the nth degree and their relationship is priceless. Just this morning she said "hug me!" after seeing him for the first time since last night. If they are apart for a while, either one of them will demand a hug once they are back together again. Her favorite phrase right now is "I do it myself." And even though she acts like a big girl sometimes, she mostly tells me "Mom, I'm da baby." She's a Daddy's girl through and through and she'll cuddle with you at the drop of a hat.

If you can't tell what she said in that last part of the video, she looked at me (unprompted) put her hands on her hips and said "I'M the pwincess."
And yes she is! Love you little Doodle!

November: It's what's for potty training

As soon as November rolled around, I felt like things would settle down a bit and this month would be a good time to potty train Parker before traveling again for Christmas. I was a tad bit wrong! Circumstances were completely out of our control and when life hands you lemons...you squeeze them in the toilet! A few days into the training we practically spent the whole day in an airport and/or airplane. I was so proud of her though. She never had one accident and even went in the potty on the airplane.

Once we got to IL for the wake and funeral, I did not want to mess with potty-time for Parker so I stuck her in a diaper. I kind of just figured we would try again in January if worse came to worse. So for the next 2 days we pretty much untrained her and were back to square one.

We started back again once the wake and funeral was over and she did okay, but not as good as the first time. Were still plugging along and so far this week no accidents.

Dear Nonie,

I close my eyes and see your face. Whenever I feel sad and miss you I find comfort in closing my eyes, pointing my face to the warmth of the sunlight and seeing the outline of your face. It's very detailed I feel like you're looking back at me and I smile. I'm still having a hard time accepting that you are gone. You were the rock of this family that kept us together. You have done your job though. No worries about us. It will just be hard not having you here. Our matriarch, with such grace and poise always instilling the importance of family togetherness in everything you did. I always saw you as the head honcho, but what I just learned through your passing was what a head honcho you really were in the community and at St Margaret's. I learned you started as a floor nurse and ended your 46 year career there as head honcho. Everyone who came in contact with you would always tell me what a sweet lady you were. We all knew so, but many many other people were blessed as well, by knowing you. As sweet as you were, you had a feisty side that only your boys and grand kids could bring out in you and we loved that side.

You will never know the emptiness I feel in my heart now that you aren't here on earth. But I promise to keep your legacy alive and find comfort in memories of you. And when I'm extra sad, I'll just point my face to the warmth and close my eyes. I know you'll be there. Even though my babies are small, I promise they will grow up knowing you.

I look forward to seeing you in Heaven. I know you will welcome us with a big pot of ravs n broth and some homemade sausage. Please give Nonie Lee a big hug from me and Grandma Louise too. I promise when I get there we'll get a manicure. Love you and miss you forever Nonie.
