Since becoming a mom....

Looking back through the archives...this was written on 6/2/09

  • I can shower in 2.5 minutes....3.5 if I have to shave.
  • Have developed an even stronger 'woman's intuition'-even with my dog...weird!
  • Take hundreds of pictures a month-hundreds people-hundreds! 282 this month, 399 last month, and 418 in March-I am obsessed with pictures!
  • Started a blog, which I'd never thought I would do, but actually enjoy it!
  • Concentrate more on eating healthy...for the most part!
  • Sleep to the hum of white noise coming from Lane's room that I can hear through the monitor and actually prefer the "noise" to silence.
  • Carry 8 grocery bags and a baby up one flight of stairs.
  • Dress a baby crawling around the room-buttoned onesie and all.
  • Apply sunscreen daily... SPF 30+ after every shower.
  • Clip coupons and sometimes grocery shop at 3 different grocery stores a week.
  • Usually plan my day around nap times.
  • Am interested in the color/texture of my child's bowel movements...they ask you this kind of stuff at the Dr. so I try to pay attention! hah!
  • Love my husband more and more everyday.
  • Am thankful for the life I live and the baby boy I get to wake-up to and take care of everyday.

As Matt put it last night as he walked in from work as I was clipping coupons in a freshly cleaned house while Lane was crawling around on the floor playing with all his toys and practically oblivious to Matt walking in the door: "You guys live the life of luxury. Pool for the past 3 days, going on vacation later this week." I looked up at him and smiled trying to tell if he was being serious. Because most people wouldn't think MY life is luxurious, but somehow I do. This is MY luxury. (Wow! How you're perspectives change and grow as you get older.) I feel pretty darn lucky to be this little boys mama and this wonderful man's wife. And while we do struggle with different hurdles life presents to us, we always make it through, stronger and happier.

My life is perfect. Our life is perfect. I am happy to be living the life I do, the life that's perfect for ME, for US, for our family, right now in this moment!

lately

This is me.

And lately I have been....

  • excited for fall
  • forgetting to floss
  • nervous about my next dentist appt. (see above)
  • creating new recipes for Lane
  • contemplating change
  • booking lots of flights
  • wondering what new and exciting object will occupy Lane on said flights
  • missing my grandparents
  • glad Grandpa George showed up during our video chat with granny and papa
  • planning wedding showers and bachelorette parties
  • working at The Shop
  • contemplating more change
  • wondering if Lane sometimes has separation anxiety at bedtime
  • thinking...or he might be turning into a night owl like his Daddy
  • waiting for him to wake up in the morning
  • excited for the next few months and New Year's Eve
  • wondering if Lane will walk down the aisle
  • ordering fall clothes for Lane on my new favorite website
  • loving Greenville
  • wondering if Lane is partially weaning because of our vacation
  • still wearing nursing bras even though it's probably not necessary
  • only nursing 2 times a day
  • glad Lane is liking whole milk
  • laughing about Lane calling his Daddy "Matt"
  • researching cameras
  • taking advantage of my new cuddly and lovey baby
  • enjoying hugs and kisses from Lane when I least expect it
  • glad I don't have to wean him from a bottle
  • wondering how I am going to break him of the paci
  • thinking I should have done it 2 months ago
  • waiting for the right time
  • just trying to be me, the best that I can!

You and Me

You are 28
I've turned 25 three times.

You are an engineer.
I'm a teacher by trade, a mom in practice.

You are a spreadsheet-makin' budget creatin' numbers crunchin' kind of guy.
I'm a coupon clippin' money savin' clearance buyin' mama.

You like to sleep in late.
I'm an early to bed, early to rise girl.

You sleep like a rock.
And I'm your alarm clock relay.

You do the grillin'.
I do the eatin'.

You love working in the garage.
I love tending to my "garden."

You love to tinker.
I think that's wierd.

You are an awesome guitar player.
I rocked the drums in 5th grade.

You do everything with perfection and diligence.
I have the grace of a wolverine.

You sometimes forget to take the trash out on trash day.
I provide you with a friendly reminder, sometimes at 2 am.

You have dark brown hair.
I have natural blonde hair, I mentioned it was natural, right ...

You 'rough-house' with Lane and Harley.
I cuddle with my precious Lane and that ol' Harley.

You walk Harley every morning before work.
I run him on the weekends.

You love coffee.
I like an iced chai latte.

You give Lane his bath.
I drop in with the camera ... bloggers never miss a good opportunity.

You make Lane laugh like no one can.
I soothe Lane like no one can.

You make a mean breakfast burrito.
I'm a food network addict, and a rachael ray protégé.

You have a good sense of direction.
I'm now aware that interstate 26 is only 20 miles from home ... and not 90.

You are an awesome handy-man.
I have the vision to put those skills to work.

You pay the bills.
I remind you to pay the bills.

You can drive a stick-shift.
I enjoy the ride.

You vacuum.
I do everything else.

You wear jeans all year long.
I'd wear shorts and flip-flops 365 days a year if I could.

You loved athletic-fit vintage T-shirts LONG before they were trendy.
I remind you that T-shirts you wore in high school are, for some occasions, best left in the closet.

You dream of being a brew-master.
I love that.

You are interesting and unique.
I married you because of that.

You make me laugh.
I get your sense of humor.

You are the rock in our family.
I'm the collector of misplaced rocks.

You love the life we've made in South Carolina.
I love the life we’ve made in SC!

You were made for me.
I was made for you.

I LOVE YOU!
I LOVE YOU TOO!
