Super Summer Night

Seriously LOVE summer! Yes, it's hot, but whatever. Summer is where it's at! Later bedtimes, picnics in the park

that inevitably end with a trip to the ice cream shop,

Where I concocted some yogurt goodnes...chocolate yogurt with peanut butter chips, bananas, and granola...heaven!

sweaty-red-faced babies running around no matter how hot they are,

stops in the fountains to keep cool, outdoor concerts, and cool showers in the evening to wash away the day before you relax on the couch waiting to slip between your cool crisp sheets! Love it!

Yesterday we took summer seriously! We had a playdate at Barnes and Noble (in the AC) with a few other mommy's and their about 2 year olds. The kids had a blast and they all suprisingly played nice and semi-quietly around the train table. We spent a good portion of the morning there. Lane and I left to run some errands and we stopped at a local bookstore to freshen up his collection for our 12 hour trip home. He picked a train book. Trains were seriously on his mind. And then when we went downtown, what do you know!? We walked over some train tracks and he was thrilled.

But still cautious :-)

Can you see him saying choo-choo here?

Our night reminded me of one 6 months ago and a year ago
I caught Matt doing this:

And we did this:

Except it was dark, cold, and Lane wasn't more interested in doing this:

Lane had a lot less hair or maybe none at all. And instead of a movie, we listened to music.

Oh summer, you are here you are here! And we like it!

Amos

On Luke and Ali's last night with us in Greenville, we got a babysitter and went to see Amos Lee. He was playing at a bar up the street from us. And even though it was up the street, we still drove because up the street is a giant hill and while I love it to start and end a workout, I don't so much love it to start and end a night out! The venue was amazing...very small and intimate. It felt like we were in someone's basement watching him play and because it was so small we were right near the front.

Awesome!
One of my favs...but who am I kidding, I loved every song. This one in particular reminds me of my Sweet Pea...Lane David.
(It's long, but my brother was recording and had to get the "jam session" in the middle...)

It's Paisley

I sat through 3 songs just looking at the pattern. It was a pattern I've seen before, but I just couldn't place it. It seemed to be a pinkish-red. What is with that pattern? I am a pattern queen. I have to be, right, working at The Shop, I've seen it all. Show me a pattern and I can name it! Damask, Floral, Striped, Gingham...but something about this pattern I just couldn't place it. During the 3rd song, I finally leaned over to Matt and asked, "What's with the pattern?" He said, "It's PAISLEY!" Oh, uhhh, right...cause he's Brad Paisley! Why couldn't I see the paisley pattern? I'm going with, because it was on a guitar and you don't normally see a paisley pattern on a guitar, unless of course your Brad Paisley. So after I was put in my pattern-place by my hubby figured that out , it was all good. In case you haven't figured it out yet, last night we went to see Brad Paisley!

Lane got some playtime with Miss Pam and Matt and I got some grown-up time. Yes, that's right, Matt went to a country concert. Lane, Daddy is not a fan of country, but in his words Brad Paisley can "shred." Which means he can play guitar really well. So I didn't even have to convince him to go. I saw the billboard a few months back as we were driving down 385, I shut my eyes and cringed and said, "Brad Paisley's coming to the Bi-Lo Center, do you wanna go?!" And he said, very matter of factly, "yes!" So I got on ticket master right then and there and bought tickets. We had pretty good seats, despite what the pics look like. We were sort of off to the side of the stage in the 2nd bowl. And these were also taken with my phone.

One of my favorite Brad Paisley's....even used some of these verses on our wedding program.

This one's for SP and BIL

Crazy Wednesday

On Wednesday's Matt and I like to go to spin class at 5:45 pm. He meets us there after work, we take Lane to the baby room, and off we go for a good workout. This sets us back a bit with the whole bathtime and suppertime routine, but it's worth it! We get home around 7 and I usually have already started dinner before we even leave for the gym, so I put the finishing touches on it while Matt and Lane get showered. Then when they are done, it's my turn. After we are all showered it's time for dinner and we are all starving by then! It's usually later by the time we are done with dinner so we take Lane upstairs for some quiet wind down time and then bedtime. But not last night. Lane was wound up.
Sorry this video is so dark. Matt has all of our light switches on dimmers and he only allows them to be half-way turned up. He has a thing with soft lighting.

A Sunday Afternoon Concert

Ever since Lane was in utero, he was VERY responsive to music. When we would sit in church and the organ would play and we would sing, he would do flips and turns and kicks in my stomach. It always made me smile. Our usual Saturday morning routine, when I was pregnant, was to hook my belly up to the Ipod and play music to McBaby. We played mostly classical, some jazz, and a little bit of Amos Lee. (I love Amose Lee)

Matt is pretty musically talented and now that Lane is here, he plays guitar to him a lot. I caught a concert yesterday and thought it was pretty cute. This is the first time Lane decided he wanted to be the singer. He's quickly learning who, in the band, receives the MOST attention!

Apparently he's a fan of PINK

Lane and I are avid watchers of the Ellen Degeneres Show. She's hilarious, what can I say. Oh and we also like to dance with her at the start of every show. That's one of his favorite parts. Although we don't always catch it while it's on, I DVR it and watch/listen to it when I have time. This morning, while getting Lane's cereal ready, I turned on the show from yesterday. Here's what was on http://youtube.com/watch?v=jK-D3CFqQlY It was funny, right, but even more amusing to me was that after the piece of Ellen and Pink singing was over, Lane started the NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa. I thought it was coincidence although I haven't heard the "n" sound come out in his vocabulary until today. So while feeding him, I started singing it and this is what he did:

I think we have a Pink fan on our hands! Don't think Daddy would be too proud.

The Next American Idol

In honor of the second week of American Idol, (yes I watch it still, actually Matt watches too and we have for the past 3 seasons now!) I thought I would post Lane's audition. He does this frequently while working in his "office" (shown in the video), laying on his back, or having tummy time. Heck! He even does it sometimes when he wakes up from his nap and isn't ready to be social yet. I will hear this screeching through the monitor and just laugh. He definitely has my musical (in)ability. Poor kid! Critiques welcome as long as you don't show your "Simon Cowell" side!
