Daily Dose of D

Lane and I try to get out daily to catch a little natural vitamin D, whether it's walking Harley or stepping out on the back porch. So this morning we took a family walk and we had to bundle Lane up cause it was only 40* with a wind chill of 37* BRRRR! I just love bundling him up, although, don't think I would be so fond of it if I had to do it everytime we went outside. Grandpa and Grandma McConville got Lane a monkey suit for when he came home in December and I just love to get use out of it. We also put Lane in his stroller for the first time without the use of the car seat. (My baby is growing up...sniffle, sniffle) It's a whole new world for him. He rode quietly, as he always does, and even caught a few ZZZZZ's. We ended our walk at a coffee shop that just opened up near our house. I love days that start out this way!

So there! Everyone says he looks exactly like his momma and according to the Look-alike Meter, Lane Diddy looks equally like his momma and daddy. Pretty interesting, right!?!?

Bouncin' Babies

Lane and I found a new (free!) program at our library called Bouncin' Babies. It takes place on Tuesday and Thursday and we attended both days this week. The program is geared for 1 month olds-18 month olds. So if you can picture it, there are moms with little little babies and moms with toddlers scootin,' crawlin,' and walkin' all over the place. Tuesday was our first time and what a GREAT program for moms and kids to meet new people and have a little fun. It's a half hour in the morning and we listened to a few short stories, we did fingerplays, and sang songs all while acting it out with the babies. It was so fun...Lane laughed the whole time....especially when he was tossed in the air or bounced in my lap. The rougher, the better for him! It was very fast moving, as you can imagine the attention span of the age group was pretty much zero, but with the change of activities it was perfect.

Lane and I made a few friends and met up with one mom and her baby again today. Lane and Michael (his new friend) are only 13 days apart so it was fun to get them together. Today they had a sock hop theme. It was very cute. It was for children of all ages, so we boogied for a little while and then found a spot in the cafe and sat with Angel and Michael to talk and play. I am so impressed with the amount of programs the library offers for children (and adults) of all ages. And the best part (especially since we are a ONE income family now!) is that it's free....except for the parking which cost $1.50 for 2 hours. Can't beat it! I don't have any pictures of the little man bouncin' cause, well, I was bouncin' with him and had noone to shoot the camera. I will try another time to get some, but I do have some pictures of him "napping." Or at least that's what he was SUPPOSED to be doing. ;-)

(P.S. Thanks to Amy for the suggestion to check out the library for activities for us to do!)

Lane so-called "napping." He must have played in his crib for an hour and I snuck up on him a few times and he just makes me laugh at some of the things he was doing for amusement.

"Oh! Hey Mom!"
"Of course I have a smile for you!"

"Mom, how long have you been watching?
Well, maybe if I smile, it will smooth things over.

Your Three Words

I saw this on Good Morning America (a while ago) and really liked it. They explained it as this......"Your Three Words" is your chance to speak your mind, a handful -- and a heartful -- at a time. Tell us how your week was. From the sublime to the ridiculous, nothing's too big or too small to send in. Write your three words on your palm, cut it out in letters, paste it (strategically -- and tastefully) over your body. Shoot it with your digital camera, webcam or cell phone. This was intriguing to me and I often think at the end of the night what my three words are for the day. And although it's not the end of the day....here are "my 3 words" so far today!

Love his laugh.

Crabby

Ok, let me explain myself before I go around calling people names! My baby, who has a sweet and humorous nature, a smile that melts your heart, and a laugh that makes you weak in the knees, can be a little temperamental at times (gasp!) Now those of you who know him well, have seen both of these sides and love him just the same....right Loret!?!? (I feel like she's seen him in rare form.)

Lane, who pretty much got every feature and characteristic of his Momma, also was "blessed" with my temperament. (I have been told that I scowled the first 9 months of my life. I can just hear my Dad "9 months! try 12 months!") No, Lane couldn't inherit his Daddy's laid back attitude. He once again took after me. So this brings me to the title of my post.....Crabby. At times, I call Lane my little crab, crabby-craberson, crabster, Lane McCrabby....pretty much anything to do with the word crab, he has been called and apparently, I am not the only one that feels this way! See inserted pictures......

These are gifts he received for Christmas.

Baby Gap outfit from Nonie, with a crab on it. Counting crab AND crab sign from Aunt Lacey! Do you think she's trying to tell us something??!! (And the crab sign was actually added inspiration for his room.)

And fittingly, I framed this picture of a Cayman Crab while Lane was still in utero! Who knew?!?!

So from here on out, when I refer to "the crab," please know that I am talking about my sweet baby Lane and that I use it with the utmost affection. ;-)

The Next American Idol

In honor of the second week of American Idol, (yes I watch it still, actually Matt watches too and we have for the past 3 seasons now!) I thought I would post Lane's audition. He does this frequently while working in his "office" (shown in the video), laying on his back, or having tummy time. Heck! He even does it sometimes when he wakes up from his nap and isn't ready to be social yet. I will hear this screeching through the monitor and just laugh. He definitely has my musical (in)ability. Poor kid! Critiques welcome as long as you don't show your "Simon Cowell" side!

Sittin' pretty and rollin' rollin' rollin'

So I can't believe I have posted every night since starting this blog. I didn't really think I had that much to say. But I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping up! Today was exciting because Lane FINALLY rolled over from his belly to his back and I captured it on video. The lazy bum, I never thought he would do it! I recorded 2 seperate times thinking he looked like he might do it, but nothing. Then the third time, I kept the camera rolling and surprisingly he kept rollin' too! Also, while playing with his toys on the floor, he sat up so well without assistance from one of us or his boppy. He had a very active day.....maybe he'll sleep good tonight??? Ha! Ha! Wishful thinking.

I can sit straight up.

I can lean over.

I can munch on my toes.

And back up again!

Sidenote: These videos are especially for Lace, who calls daily and asks if I have any videos to post. MUAH!

Something to celebrate.

It's Matt's 28th Birthday today. Lane and I saw him off to work and began to prepare dessert and dinner....in that order....in our pj's! We started with the cake, angel food with chocolate frosting. Lane wasn't a huge help, but good company nonetheless! Then onto the marinade for some yummy pork chops. MMMMMM!!!!

Little does he know, the good stuff is actually inside the box.

We were able to sing and blow out candles before bedtime (Lane's bedtime, that is) and all in all it was a good day.

I feel really blessed to be a part of Matt's 28th birthday. He is an amazing person, husband, father, son, and friend and I just want to thank his parents, Ed and Loretta, for moldng him into the wonderful human being that he is.
Happy Birthday Honey! Happy Birthday Daddy! We love you!
Here's to ya!

Let it snow!

An appropriate title for tonight's post....we are under a winter weather advisory and could get 1-3 inches of snow. I think IL is starting to rub off on us and I'm not sure I am liking it! 5 counties across the Upstate and in the mountains have already closed their schools for tomorrow. No wonder why the grocery store was so busy....everyone was out buying milk, bread, and eggs. I was thankful Lane had one pair of fleece pj's cause I figured he would need them tonight and they appropriately have snowmen on them.

Here's Lane and Matt (who shaved his beard, YAY!) just before bed.

And here's a peak at what Matt has been doing in the garage.
Flannel work shirt-check!
Tool belt-check! (he wears that thing even when he is hanging stuff...or changing a light bulb! Ha! Ha!)
Safety glasses-check!
It's soon to be a changing table/dresser. It's part of the projects we are working on for Lane's room. Can't wait to show you the rest!

I'll let you know how the weather turns out.

First "snowfall" and first try at acting!

Funny title, but it's basically what sums up today. Everyone worked hard around here. Matt is doing some carpentry for Lane's room. I was also working on some things for his room and small projects around the house and Lane played hard and slept hard and of course had the occasional meal. Besides for working hard, we woke up to "snow" falling from the sky. We also witnessed Lane's first try at acting....a funny one I might add. He fake coughs and Matt and I don't know where it came from!?!?!? I captured a little bit on video. My little drama king.

Here is the "accumulation" on our deck and our poor Confederate Jasmine. Hope she makes it out ok!

Here is a view out our bedroom window. It's of the neighbors house and you can see the snow on the roof. It lasted a short 30 minutes and by 2:00 it was 50 degrees. Gotta love SC winters.

So there's more than just milk?!?!?!

Today was the day. This morning when Lane woke up we decided to try out some cereal. So we put him in his chair and he played with his toys while I mixed some up. He watched me work in the kitchen in-between chewing on his keys and had no idea what he was about to experience! He played curiously with his bib and then a spoonful right in his mouth. He wasn't quite sure about the whole spoon thing and kept trying to grab it. When he finished the first bite he was excited and looking for more. I even had to mix up a 2nd batch. Over all I would say the introduction was a success! Here are some pictures and a video of the events!
