The Day you were born...

Before the details get fuzzy, I wanted to get this down.

We spent the day doing this. I was feeling great! I had a "feeling" it would be soon, but didn't know today was the day. After all, it was still 11 days away from my Dr. calculated due date.

Daddy and I spent most of the afternoon watching football. I did have him snap these pics of me. This is what I looked like the day I went into labor.

Now you see it!
Now you don't! (I guess that's why people gave me the strangest looks when I turned around!)

After nap time for Lane, we went to Publix for groceries. When we pulled into the garage, I suddenly did not feel very well. Daddy instructed me to go upstairs and lay down. So I did. I was feeling pukey and just a little off. Daddy put away the groceries and made dinner. We had Chicken and Mushroom Pasta...he did a good job, but I wasn't extremely hungry so I just ate a few noodles and I was satisfied.

We were supposed to go to a fundraising event for a neighbor who was diagnosed with cancer. I was not feeling up to it so Daddy decided to make his appearance. He left around 9 pm and Lane and I jumped into the shower. After showering, I put Lane to bed and laid on the couch to watch TV. I was having mild contractions. Around 10 o'clock, I decided to start timing them. They had been lasting for a while and I wanted to see if they were consistent.

I used the handy dandy contrax app on my iPhone. Oddly enough, they were only 3-4 minutes apart. They continued and I kept thinking they can't be coming this close together so soon. I called Nene and Papa around 11 and told them what was going on, but I was still fuzzy on whether or not to tell them to start driving. I decided I would wait a little bit longer and that they should get some rest. Meanwhile, Daddy came home.

He was a bit surprised, but wasn't really sure if this was it. I labored through contractions on the medicine ball, but was feeling pretty uncomfortable. Contractions were 2-3 minutes apart and lasting 30-60 seconds. I decided I would try to lay down for a bit. I went to our bedroom to lay down and within minutes decided that this was it. I needed to go to the hospital so I didn't have this baby at home. I asked Daddy to call Lane's caretaker and he went to wake him up to take him. It was about 11:30 pm at this point.

While Daddy was gone, contractions were still coming stronger and closer together. I started to get nervous that we wouldn't make it in time. I threw some remaining items into my hospital bag and when Daddy showed up, we headed for the car.

Daddy's car is NOT the most comfortable to ride in while in labor. I clearly remember that with Lane. I remember turning the A/C way up and using the cool air on my hands to take my mind off the pain. Daddy parked the car in the parking lot. Yes, I walked all the way to the door. (What was he thinking?!?) LOL! It took us about 10 minutes to get from the car to the door because I had to stop with each contraction. We went inside where the registration could not find my forms. I was annoyed and hunched over the counter. Could they not tell I was in LABOR?!?!

Finally they just told me to go up. No wheelchair or assistance...just walk you pregnant lady who is clearly in very active labor. But whatev!

Daddy was of course very supportive. We again had to stop with each contrax, but finally made it to the fourth floor. We checked into triage and I changed into my gown. The nurse wanted me to sit in the bed to be hooked up to the monitors. Um, this was not something I wanted to do. I was very uncomfortable and sitting didn't help. Finally, after contractions had passed, I agreed to sit. When she hooked me up we heard your little heart beat thumping away. It was music to my ears. Finally she checked me and announced the BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD IN A LONG TIME....I WAS 8-9 CM! WAHOO! I seriously would have cried if I was any less. I was in so much pain.

They quickly wheeled over a wheelchair. (I'm surprised they didn't make me walk...LOL) We settled into the delivery room where you were soon to make your appearance!

Things were very busy in there. There was lots of stuff to get done and little time to do it. It was around 1:45 am at this point. The Dr. came in to break my water because they thought I was 10 CM. But when they broke my water, I went back to 8. :-( I was not happy, but Dr. Metherell (my Dr. who was on call again!!! YAY!!) assured me things would progress quickly and that he would be back in about 20 minutes. Just as he was about to step out into the hall, I had the feeling to push. Don't leave! Baby's coming!

What he thought would take 20 minutes, actually took 30 seconds and Parker, you were ready to be born. Nurses started to scurry. The Dr. quickly put on his delivery "outfit" and I felt like I was sitting on your head. Sorry, TMI, but I was panicked! They were telling me not to push...uh-wha?? Do I really have a choice to stop you at this point...um not really.

When everything was in place, I started to push. Pushing continues to be the hardest thing I have ever done. There is no explanation or comparison. It sucks! But luckily, your head must have been smaller than your brother's because after a short 15 minutes....OUT YOU CAME!!

And you were a GIRL?!? I saw your girl parts before anyone said anything. The Dr. said "It's a..." and for what seemed like an eternity, everyone just watched. And then I shouted "GIRL?!?, I have a daughter?!?!" Daddy and I were shocked. We for sure thought you were a boy. They placed you on my chest and all I could say was "it's a girl? Matt, we have a daughter!"

After a couple of minutes, they took you to clean you up and got all of your measurements.

8 lbs. 4 oz. and 20.5 inches long. You weighed 2 oz more than Lane and measured 1 inch shorter.

Daddy held you for what seemed like forever, while they stitched and cleaned me up.

You were a little feisty one the whole time. You kept rooting and voicing that you were ready to eat! When Dr. Metherell was done, I finally got my hands on you and you looked right into my eyes.

I cannot believe I have a daughter. Now feed me! I guess I didn't eat enough pasta for dinner!

You latched right on and we spent the next hour taking you all in.

Around 4 am they moved us to our room where we would set-up camp for the next 48 hours. I didn't sleep a wink that night. I watched you and Daddy snoozing away. You were to my left in your little crib and Daddy was next to you on the pull-out couch. I was so happy!

Welcome to our family Miss Parker Lou! We have been waiting for you!
