Lane's 1st year

Posted by Picasa

Starting Saturday and continuing on Sunday I have a series of posts scheduled to post around the time everything happened to mark the 'events' of Lane's b-day. I hope you enjoy them. I had fun writing them...it brought back a lot of memories. Oh and I hope this scheduling thing works...I've never tried it before!

Because I like to keep it real!

Now we KNOW a baby isn't always puppies and rainbows and I will be the first to admit it. I had a colicky baby, an 'extended beyond the norm of 3 months' colicky baby and I'm not denying it! To deny it would be a dis-service to myself and now (thankfully) we look back on it and laugh. But trust me, during that time...there was no laughing. I believe Lane was picked to be my child to teach me to have the utmost patience, forgiveness, strength and tolerance one person is allowed to have in one lifetime and believe me, I learned!

I treasure his sweetness and easy-going-ness (well most of the time) and smiles and laughter more than anything in the world because you see, we did not have that for the first few months so we know and appreciate what a good baby truly is! I am so thankful for this little boy and for the patience and strength that God provided us to get through one REALLY REALLY tough time (I wish I would have started blogging from the beginning, just to be able to look back). And I also thank our parents who swooped in (on more than one occasion), just when we thought we couldn't handle anymore, to provide us with confidence and uplift our spirits.

It's funny that Matt and I actually talk about having more children...I say that because going through the first few months I remember thinking I could not do this again, but I can, WE can and we will. We have the experience and knowledge to know how to better handle the situation. And we do talk about a bigger family and we will hopefully someday have a bigger family because we realize how truly blessed we are to have (a not-so-good baby turned) the best-baby-we could have!

I started this post to show you outtakes from his photoshoot. And it turned into reminiscing...sorry about the tangent!

But just to show you that babies aren't always puppies and rainbows, even good babies...

Do you like the booger bubbles?

I still can't help but think his sour puss is still so cute!

And I did get some without the sour puss!

But not without the boogers, unfortunately!

And my scholarly baby who LOVES to sit and look at books and especially turn the pages!

You know...when

You know you've wiped your baby's nose one too many times in the last two weeks when...

a napkin, to him, is the coolest thing since sliced bread and he crawls around wiping everything in sight. Including (but not limited to):

the floor

Harley's nose

the stove

his toys

matt's supplies

AAAND himself

You know you've been to Home Depot one too many times in a weekend when...

the employees start recognizing you and your baby at TWO different Home Depot stores!

You know you've had experience talking your husband into doing a project (or two) ;-) when:

he starts a backsplash at 1 pm on a Sunday afternoon with little or no negotiating! ('After' pictures to follow when it's all finished!)

So proud!

So this morning, after Lane had cereal and fruit...I think it was pineapple, mango, kiwi he was still hungry...of course! So Matt, who must have paid attention a time or two, decided to use the left over sweet potatoes from last nights dinner and make Lane a sweet potato pancake. And I am talking from scratch...not using pancake mix. I usually make a big batch and have them frozen, but we are out at the moment! I was so proud...he is my baby food makin' hubby! Go Matt!

The happy customer...

Clearly it was a hit...Lane is signing 'more'

Disclaimer:I'm not quite sure what Matt used to make the pancake because I saw some baby cereal sitting out and a carton of eggs among other things...but we won't ask...apparently he did a good job, according to Lane!

Banana-Cado Mousse

If you're like me you always have bananas laying around and at least an avocado or two. I wanted to share with you a really simple snack for adults or kids or great breakfast for infants/toddlers. It's really simple. If your bananas are a little too over ripe to just eat this a great and easy way to still make use out of them.

Bananas and avocado are really easy baby food to make for your baby as well because they don't involve steaming and peeling...well not the kind of peeling an apple or peach requires!

Anyway, put 1, 2, 3 (or how ever many you want) bananas into a blender, then scoop out some avocado and add it. Last add some vanilla yogurt, blend and voila! you have banana-cado mousse!

I made this for Lane this morning for breakfast and I used 2 bananas and 2 avocado and one yo!baby vanilla yogurt. I also mixed in some of his oatmeal and it made the perfect breakfast. It's obviously super healthy as well with all the potassium from the bananas and avocados contain "good fat" which is good for brain and physical development! And just a fun and interesting tid-bit:
Avocados are often called one of nature's perfect foods because they are said to contain everything a person needs to survive.

He ate 2 bowls of this.

Just for good measure, using 2 bananas and 2 avocado allowed 2 bowls for Lane this morning and 2 ice cube trays to freeze.

Down and Out

Well, it was bound to happen. Sweet Baby Lane had a cold that he is just about rid of...a slight runny nose and a little congestion still....he passed it on to his Daddy and on Monday when they both seemed to be getting better, I spent the day cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, lysol-ing, clorox-ing toys, door knobs, handles, toilets, railings, you name it, it had been de-germified (I kinda like that word and think I made it up...I used it in my other post too!!haha!) but of course without completely leaving the house it had to hit mommy first. And wouldn't you know, I got the worst of it. Matt's was a little congestion for 2 days and I am battling a sore throat that feels like knives sliding down my throat every time I swallow. I am pretty sure Lane did not have a sore throat cause if he did, he would have cried a lot more because that's what I want to do. I also have an ear ache in BOTH my ears! Ouch.

Being the mommy and the one who always has to be "on", I am going to the Dr. today at 2. I am praying that it is just a little sore throat. I just want to get checked out because if it's something worse I don't want it to get even worse. We have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks and I want to be spot on!

So here are a few pictures and video of Lane. Now don't think I am one of those crazy moms that thinks their child can say words. Yes, he can say mamamamama and dadadada, but it's just because that is the natural sounds that a baby his age makes! He doesn't call us by mom or dad, he just yells those sounds sometime! I am pretty sure HAR EE (aka Harley) is not in a baby's 'first word' vocabulary, but I am confidant that Lane can point to Harley when you ask where he is and has also said HAR EE at least 10 times now in the right context.

To save you from having to listen to the ramblings of Lane talking to his grapes he says HAR EE at the very beginning of the video and around 1:07 and 1:11.

He started doing it a few days ago and when Matt came home from work, I told him and he looked at me with that 'yeah right' look. So I prompted Lane and 2 times he said it and Matt was amazed! Now tell me I am not crazy!

Here are some pictures of a typical evening right before bed. An after-bath naked baby getting his last crawling craziness in before he retires for a nice long sleep.

It's hilarious! (funny part is he is holding a picture album of his grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles! we look at it every night and point and say names!)

This is what I get when I pick him up to try and get a picture together!?!?

Playing on his favorite toy...daddy!
