At 22 months Life with Lane is interesting to say the least.
Apparently he's into posing for the camera when I ask to take his picture!
He talks all the time and rarely signs anymore. He still signs 'more' while also saying it. I guess he really needs to get his point across. He still signs 'I love you" too. I'm so glad he is talking, but I sometimes have a hard time translating. I feel like since I spend ALL day with him, I should know what he is saying...but I sometimes don't. :sigh:
It's frustrating for me and has to be frustrating for him. Although, he never really shows any frustration. I'm sure this is just another normal step, but it sometimes makes me sad because I don't know what the heck he is saying. Most things I can understand and most of the time, I know what he wants, but there's that other time....when....I don't. I just say yes! or nod and smile or say ok. And it seems to appease him. But sometimes I guess that is not the right response and he will keep at it until I figure it out! I always say "show me!" and he is starting to walk me over or pointing to what he is trying to say so that is helping too!
And of course things aren't spoken clear as day. For example 'fish,' not gonna lie sounds like 'bitch.' Sorry for the vulgarity, but it's true. 'Come here Harley' sounds like 'mereharley.' And Harley is just now catching on to what exactly 'mereharley' means. Music sounds like "sica." He knows there should be 2 syllables, but he just can't quite get our the 'mu' to pair it was the 'sic.'

Starbucks=tarbucks
Earth=earf
green=geen
and then there's the clear as day sounds lie "Oh Man!" and "Oh no!" complete with pursed out lips and scrunched brow. And my favorite..."Alright!" So cute! I really couldn't sit here and write all the words in his vocabulary because it is big and honestly I wouldn't know how to spell half his interpretations! He definitely has 2 and 3 word sentences and just talks more and more everyday!
He is starting to show signs of not wanting to share with other kids or wanting something that another child has just because they have it. When he plays with Devon and Noah, he is the little man on the totem pole, but when he plays with Jade and Cole, he is a little more aggressive with Cole, who is younger. And by aggressive I mean, he is more apt to take away a toy from him! So he gets his turn of being the little guy and the big guy. Still sweet as pie though, if you ask me, but I may be biased!
We attended our first library program of the summer and he was content to sit in my lap during stories and was a little timid when all the kids got up to dance. He definitely takes some time to warm up and if he isn't sure, he will stick by my side. He has always been a cautious little guy, just like his momma! He is also starting to put one finger in his mouth when he is uncomfortable or shy. He does still love to wave at people walking by or in the car, but if they stop to talk, he sometimes gets shy.
We have really upped the ante on our social calendar so he is getting a lot of interaction with other children of all ages as well as other adults. It's been fabulous for us both!
He can count to a number that is still TBD...he doesn't count when asked on command, but you can catch him counting something when he thinks you aren't looking. Colors are also starting to become an interest. He knows blue and 'geen' and I think orange, but the rest he just asks and then repeats. He knows a handful of letters and will point them out randomly when he finds them laying around, or if he sees them somewhere. Randomly the other day he said 'm' and pointed to Matt's MTV shirt (yes, it's from highschool) and one day he found a magnetic letter E on the floor that was turned like an M and he said 'm!' And he loves to play the letter game with the bathtub letters and also "color" with the 'color cans' in the tub.
