Settled? Not hardly, but thankful!
He helped me with the pumpkin pies.
He made the dough for the pie crust.
She kept us company and enjoyed some breakfast.
I cannot express how CRAZY life has been. I've unpacked an entire house and then hosted Thanksgiving in the past 3 weeks. We were so grateful for our visitors to join us in our new home. We had Thanksgiving dinner on our outdoor patio set in the dining room. Needless to say, we have some furniture shopping to do.
Matt tried to start the first fire in our (wood burning) fireplace minutes before we took out the turkey and seconds later the house was filled with SMOKE! I had a chimney sweep come and check it out a few weeks back and he said everything looked fine, but wasn't sure that it would burn because of the giant addition we added to the side of the house. I think he was right. We're definitely going to have to figure out what is wrong and see how we can fix it. After we opened all the doors and windows and cleared the smoke, we sat down for dinner. I asked Lane what he was Thankful for and he said:
"God is great, God is good, Let us thank him for this food."
And that pretty much summed up our feelings. :-)
On Friday, we put our visitors to work. Papa added dimmers to various switches in the house, put door stops on doors that needed stopping and did other random projects. It took an entire day to hang the TV and install a can light over our peninsula. We headed out to dinner that night and walked around downtown.
Saturday, we took the kids to ride the train...a new Thanksgiving weekend tradition that we started last year.
Only this year, Lane covered his ears the entire time and didn't ask to ride again.
Although it was hard to believe, he did say he had fun. Miss Parkie loved it!
The rest of the weekend was spent watching football and hanging out. We said good bye to Ryan on Monday and Papa on Tuesday.
I really need to note in this blog post that 3 year old Lane ate raw carrots with ranch dressing and drank oj for his Thanksgiving dinner.
